A Message from the Class Teachers, Miss Holt and Mrs Dengate
Welcome back to school everyone!
We hope that everybody enjoyed a lovely holiday and didn’t eat too many Easter eggs!
We have been very lucky recently with some wonderful Spring weather. We hope that everyone enjoyed doing interesting and exciting things with their families and friends during the holiday, especially on the sunny days, and we can’t wait to hear you share what you have been doing with the class.
We are very lucky that our school is in the countryside, not only can we appreciate the Spring flowers everywhere at the moment but we are also surrounded by fields of animals coming outside after the winter and it is especially lovely to see the new lambs playing in the fields. Has anyone been to see lambing on a farm? Miss Holt and Mrs Dengate would love to hear about it if you have.
This term we are welcoming a new Acorn! Olivia will be coming to our school and we are very much looking forward to welcoming her and helping her to settle in.
This term our topic is ‘The Seaside’ which we are very excited about – especially with our trip to Whitstable!
During this topic, we will be learning about continents, countries, oceans, the history of the seaside and of course using our art and DT skills.
In Science, this term we will be learning about plants and carrying out some scientific experiments and investigations. What a wonderful time of year to be able to explore the local plants and flowers in the woods too!
If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them!
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The home learning menu for this term will be based upon our topic of ‘The Seaside’. The children’s showcasing of their previous home learning last term was once again fantastic and we were blown away with all of their hard work and creativity. Well done to everyone and we look forward to the next one!
We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Thursday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
Spiderman the Penguin has continued to enjoy his weekend stays with different children so far and he’s looking forward to lots more “sleepovers” and adventures with you all.
Travelling Bear has also been enjoying his holiday adventures. Remember if you want him to go on holiday with you all you have to do is write a letter inviting him along, if his diary is free he could be going with you on your next holiday! You can keep up to date with his adventures by looking at his diary.
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with stickers, house points, monster points, penguin punctuation points, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Miss Holt (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Dengate (Wed – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth – Teaching Assistant
Mrs Brown – Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Tuesday and Thursday)
RNLI Beach Safety (4 images)
The RNLI came to talk to Acorn Class about keeping safe at the seaside. We were a little disappointed there wasn't a swimming pool to go with the dolphin!
