A Message from the Class Teachers, Miss Holt and Mrs Dengate
Acorn Newsletter February 2017
Welcome back to term 4, we hope you have all had a fantastic week off and are looking forward to another exciting term.
The days are longer, with more daylight and if you look carefully you will see some Spring bulbs pushing their leaves up through the soil with their buds forming ready to bloom when the weather gets warmer. It’s a lovely time of year to look forward to as we approach Easter, when we will be able to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection (and eat some Easter eggs!!)
Last term was an incredibly busy one. We enjoyed exploring our topic of ‘colour’, which will continue into this term, we have also been learning about different materials and their properties in science along with introducing telling the time and using money in maths.
This term also saw us working as a school, in our house teams, to celebrate some of our Christian Values, including joy, courage, self-esteem and kindness.
Before the holiday Acorn class enjoyed a walk to the Church where we met with Rev. Alan who kindly showed us all around. He explained the different parts of the church and the jobs that people carry out there. Some children even got to ring the bells!!
As swimming comes to a close for Acorns shortly we just wanted to mention how well the children have done this year in the pool. They should all be very pleased with their achievements – well done Acorns!
We would also like to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible home learning tasks you have undertaken. We were amazed by the creativity and effort of all Acorns and their families. A new home learning scheme was made available before half term, if a copy of this is required please speak to any of the Acorn team. We are already looking forward to the results of this term’s home learning!
Alongside the home learning scheme, spellings and times tables will be set each week on a Thursday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
There will be some changes to PE for Acorn Class this term. Acorns will now have PE on a Wednesday afternoon with Miss Wallwork. Please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Our Christian Value this term is Joy. In Acorn class we highly value kindness and we have created a new kindness jar which the children will be able to fill with kind words and thoughts about their friends, we will then share these positive words as a class in order to pass on the joy found in kindness.
Please be advised that Parents Evenings are due to be held on the 15th and 16th of March, more information will be sent out to you nearer the time but for now please put these dates in your diaries.
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
Spiderman the Penguin has continued to enjoy his weekend stays with different children so far and he’s looking forward to lots more “sleepovers” and adventures with you all.
Travelling Bear has also been enjoying his holiday adventures. Remember if you want him to go on holiday with you all you have to do is write a letter inviting him along, if his diary is free he could be going with you on your next holiday! You can keep up to date with his adventures by looking at his diary.
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, monster points, penguin punctuation points, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Miss Holt (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Dengate (Wed – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth – Teaching Assistant
Mrs Brown – Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Tuesday and Thursday)
