The Village Academy

The Village Academy is a group of town, city and village schools that have joined together to provide the very best education for the children in our care and where we believe that education is very much a matter of the individual.

Acorns Class (years 1 and 2)

A Message from the Class Teachers, Mrs Wood and Mrs Dengate

Welcome to Term 1

Welcome to Acorn Class!  We hope that everyone enjoyed a fantastic summer holiday.

The Acorn team were really touched by the thoughtful gifts and wonderful cards we received at the end of the last school year, everyone’s kindness is very much appreciated.

Our existing Acorns will be entering Year Two and will, without doubt, be excellent ambassadors ready to take the new Year Ones “under their wings” and welcome them to our special Acorn “family.”

Before we look towards the term ahead and leave all thoughts of our Summer break behind us, we hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and we can’t wait to hear what you have all been doing with your friends and family since you were last at school. Did you visit family?  Did you go away on a holiday and if so what type of holiday was it, camping, flying to another country or some other adventure?  Perhaps you visited somewhere new that you have not been to before, a castle, zoo or theme park?  We have a special area in the classroom where our class news will be displayed throughout the year so please bring in any items of interest or print us a photograph if you can, to show where you were and who you were with so then we will be able to learn about each other’s holiday activities!

We hope that you will find the following information useful as we begin the new school year:

Acorns have recently named their class teddy Rebecca, who will be starting this school year with us!  Children will be able to take turns in having and sharing weekend adventures with Rebecca.

Travelling Bear returns too and will be looking forward to his holiday adventures with Acorns; don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been!  Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!

The children have also created a trophy/award section in our Worship Area, so if children have any out of school achievements/awards they would like to share with the class or bring in to display in this new area we would love to see them (we will of course make sure they are kept safe!).

Please can we remind everyone (if you have not already done so) to bring in some photographs of family/pets/places etc that are special to the children (we can print/copy these at school if necessary).  Again, this is for the class Worship Area.

PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon with Miss Wallwork, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Children will be set spelling and times table homework weekly. This will be sent home on a Monday and is due in on the following Monday. The Home Learning menu for this term will continue to be based upon our topics.

Children will bring home a reading book with a reading record book every day. We hope that you will be able to support their learning by reading with them as often as possible and making notes in their reading record books. Please also feel free to make notes in this book if you have any questions/queries or wish to include any information you would like us to be aware of, as they will be checked daily. Of course, if you would like to speak with any of the Acorn team we are available at the end of the school day.

Show and Tell will take place every Friday afternoon. It is important that all Show and Tell is either topic themed or in relation to a special visit/event.

Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class.  There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with our behaviour weather chart, Marvellous Me points, house points, marbles, wrist bands, raffle tickets and plenty more!

As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.

Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.

We look forward to an exciting and busy start to the new school year!
