A Message from the Class Teachers, Miss Holt and Mrs Dengate
Welcome back to school Acorns!
We hope that you all had a lovely break and are ready for the busy term ahead leading up to Christmas, with lots of wonderful things to learn about and look forward to.
The newest Acorns (Y1’s) have settled into class well and have quickly become part of the Acorn family, we are very proud of the way they have handled the transition. We are also very proud of our Year 2’s who have taken on the responsibility of being the older members of the class beautifully, leading by example and helping their fellow classmates to settle in. Well done everyone!
Before the holiday we all enjoyed coming together to thank God for the Harvest and our Church Service was well attended, thank you to everyone who came along and for your generous donations of food that will help people in need. Acorns and Catkins sang their song very well and we hope that everyone enjoyed the service.
During the term ahead, Acorns will be working on the Nativity Play. Putting on a production allows for great learning opportunities for the children, not just their individual acting, reading and performing skills, but also for them to work as a group, coming together to work on their own show! You will have by now received a letter about the parts individual children will be playing and a separate letter will follow detailing the dates and times of the performances. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to come along. Our topic work this term will continue to be “People”. Last term we learnt about people who help us in the community and some significant nurses from the past.
We will be continuing to learn about significant people from the past this term, beginning with Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot!
Our Science topic this term is “Weather”.
We will have opportunities to carry out lots of exciting experiments and investigations.
If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them!
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The Home Learning menu for this term will be based upon our topics. The children’s showcasing of their previous home learning last term was fantastic and we were blown away with all of their hard work and creativity. Well done to everyone!
We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Thursday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
Mrs Penguin is just waiting for a home (box!) to come to your house in. If you have any spare homes available that she could have we would be very grateful!
Don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been! Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, marbles, penguin punctuation points, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Miss Holt (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Dengate (Wed – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth – Teaching Assistant
Mrs Naisby – Teaching Assistant (Mornings only)
Mrs Brown – Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Tuesday and Thursday)

Acorn Class Trip to Whitstable (10 images)
We all enjoyed our trip to Whitstable especially visiting the RNLI lifeboat station.

RNLI Beach Safety (4 images)
The RNLI came to talk to Acorn Class about keeping safe at the seaside. We were a little disappointed there wasn't a swimming pool to go with the dolphin!
