A Message from the Class Teachers, Miss Holt and Mrs Dengate
Welcome to Acorn Class! We hope that everyone enjoyed a fantastic summer holiday.
The Acorn team were really touched by the thoughtful gifts and wonderful cards we received at the end of the last school year, everyone’s kindness is very much appreciated.
We want to extend a special WELCOME to last year’s Reception children, who will be joining Acorns this academic year as they move up into Year 1. We are looking forward to building on the relationships that began to blossom during Move Up Week and last year’s Year 1’s will be embarking on their journey as year 2’s in Acorn class – there’s lots to learn and look forward to.........
Firstly let’s find out what everyone did in the long Summer holiday, we’d love to hear where you went and what you did. Did you visit family? Did you go away on a holiday and if so what type of holiday was it, camping, flying to another country or some other adventure? Perhaps you visited somewhere new that you have not been to before, a castle, zoo or theme park? We will have a special area in the classroom where will be able to learn about each other’s holiday activities – please bring in any items of interest or print us a photograph if you can, to show where you were and who you were with.
During RE lessons this term we will be exploring our Christian Values and linking them to parables from the Bible. The children were hard at work in Move Up Week designing their own class Worship Area which we are very excited about using. They have had some fantastic ideas and have begun their own class prayer book with some wonderful prayers.
The children have also created a trophy/award section in our Worship Area, so if children have any out of school achievements/awards they would like to share with the class or bring in to display in this new area we would love to see them (we will of course make sure they are kept safe!).
Please can we remind everyone (if you have not already done so) to bring in some photographs of family/pets/places etc that are special to the children (we can print/copy these at school if necessary). Again this is for the class Worship Area.
Our topic work this term will be “People Who Help Us”.
We will be learning about job roles, the local community and famous people from the past.
Our Science topic this term is ‘Seasons”. We will have opportunities to carry out lots of exciting experiments and investigations.
If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them!
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The Home Learning menu for this term will be based upon our topics. The children’s showcasing of their previous home learning last term was fantastic and we were blown away with all of their hard work and creativity. Well done to everyone!
We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Thursday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
The Class Penguin is ready and waiting for some fun weekend adventures at home with Acorns, he/she (the children will decide its name in a vote) loves sleepovers! Watch this space to find out more details next time.
Travelling Bear is also ready and raring to start a new year of holiday adventures with Acorns, don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been! Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, marbles, penguin punctuation points, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
For further information, please don’t forget to look at the school’s website, where you can find lots of useful information. As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Miss Holt (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Dengate (Wed – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth – Teaching Assistant
Mrs Naisby – Teaching Assistant (Mornings only)
Mrs Brown – Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Tuesday and Thursday)

Acorn Class Trip to Whitstable (10 images)
We all enjoyed our trip to Whitstable especially visiting the RNLI lifeboat station.

RNLI Beach Safety (4 images)
The RNLI came to talk to Acorn Class about keeping safe at the seaside. We were a little disappointed there wasn't a swimming pool to go with the dolphin!
