Dear parents and carers,
Firstly, a huge well done to the class for their hard work on our Easter play last term. I’m sure all parents and carers will agree that they put on a wonderful performance and worked hard to learn all their lines and song words.
It’s hard to believe we are now in the Summer term and with the weather getting warmer (hopefully!) we aim to take as much of our learning as we can outside of the classroom and utilise our extra space on the playground, field and in the woods.
Our topic this term will be Ancient Greece and we will begin this topic with myths and legends, moving onto learning about the Olympic Games and life in this era. If the children have any books or objects related to our topic and would like to bring them in, then we would love to add these t0 our classroom display.
We are very excited to welcome the professionals from ‘Working Science’ into school next week for Aspen’s class trip this term. The all day workshop will extend the children’s learning in both Light and Sound, which are the science topics we have covered for the past few weeks. We will then move onto Electricity as our science topic for the rest of term.
Maths this term will move onto measure, shape, money, time and statistics. We will continue to apply our knowledge of the four operations and place value throughout our learning in all of these areas through problem solving and reasoning type questions. Practising times table facts and KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts) continues to be really important in supporting the work we do in school and we thank you for working with the children on these at home.
Following the previous success of working from a text in our English work, we will begin this term with a familiar author, Anthony Browne, with his wonderfully illustrated book, Into the Forest. This also prepares the children well for writing week next week, as the whole school focus is fairytales. Aspen will be putting their own special spin on some familiar stories!
As always, if you would like to speak with a member of the Aspen team, please do not hesitate to book an appointment via the office, catch us at the end of the day or pop a note in your child’s reading record.
Please remember that:
- children need to hand their reading records in each day and bring in their current reading book too.
- PE kits are needed for PE on Tuesday afternoons but should be in school every day in case of any changes to our timetable.
The Aspen Team consists of:
Miss Davis - class teacher
Miss Wallwork- teaching assistant
Mrs Archer - teaching assistant
