Writing week was centred on the theme of Fairy tales this year. We made full use of the beautiful woods on our doorstep and took the whole school for a walk. As we walked further onto the woods we found all sorts of strange items – porridge bowls, red capes, broom sticks, to name but a few. We took them back to school and held an assembly to talk about what we had found and where the items may have come from.
Shortly after we had a visit from Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood who wandered onto the playground and play time and then spent time I each class answering questions the children had for them.
Each class then took writing on their own direction. We had reports on the plants and trees in the woods, mixed up fairy tales and alternative endings. We were all really impressed by the quality of the written work produced.
We held 3 writing competitions and were pleased with the number of entries received. Afolabli even crated his own news clip on the story of Goldilocks. We ended the week with an assembly for parents so the children could talk about their creative and fun week of learning.
