Term 4

This term we will dive into our English text, 'Town is by the Sea' by Joanne Schwartz and explore the poem 'The Open Sea' by Dorothea Mackellar.  In our Maths learning we will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes and then focus on time.  In RE we will be asking ourselves 'Why do Christians call the day Jesus died 'Good Friday'?  The Easter Production this year will give us the opportunity to bring the events of Holy Week to life.  In Geography we will be asking 'Where does our food come from' and looking at the ethics of how chocolate is produced!  In Science we continue our exploration into plant growth with lots of exciting tests to set up and evaluate.  In DT the sewing needles will be out as we design and sew our own cushions.  We will be creating stop-motion animation films in Computing and continuing our Ukulele practice in Music.  PE this term is fitness circuits and football.

Term 3

We had such an interesting time finding out about the history of Milstead & Frinsted School first hand, from an ex-pupil. Our English text, 'Pugs of the Frozen North' was a fantastical icy adventure which really grabbed our imaginations.   In Maths we tackled Fractions and got to grips with money.  In our RE our focus was on the Gospels and we asked 'What kind of world did Jesus want'?  In Science our attention was drawn to plants and plant growth, planting seeds and seeding up opportunities to observe and test 'what plants need' to survive.  Our drawing skills were practiced and improved in Art and Birthday Celebrations were explored in French.  Computing gave us the opportunity to practice our word processing skills. PE this term focused on gymnastics and dance, it was amazing to be able to share our 'Celebration' dance in our end of term class worship.

Term 2

Our Chapter book this term was 'An Alien in the Jam Factory' by Chrissie Sains - what an adventure this led us on.  In Maths we continued with addition and subtraction, before moving on to Multiplication and Division.  In Science our focus zoomed in to 'Minibeasts and Microhabitats'.  In RE we looked at Incarnation and asked ourselves the challenging question, 'What is the Trinity' using the story of Baptism to help us answer.  Geography asked us to consider whether we'd rather live in a hot place or a cold place and DT had us exploring and making pneumatic toys!  In music we continue to improve our Ukulele skills and enjoyed delivering our first live performance.

Term 1

Our topic this term was the History of flight, giving us lots of opportunities for outside fun with gliders, making model air balloons and finding out about the early pioneers of flight.  In English we enjoyed the story of 'Wild' by Emily Hughes.  Maths was about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction.  In RE we got to immerse ourselves in the story of Creation and asked 'Who made the world'?  Science was an excuse to get out into the Woods as we explored 'Living things and their habitats'.  Art was another opportunity to use paint to explore life in colour.  We made the most of the last warm days of summer in Basket Ball and Multi-sports for our PE lessons.  Ukulele lessons also began, we are looking forward to sharing our first performance next term.
