The Village Academy

The Village Academy is a group of town, city and village schools that have joined together to provide the very best education for the children in our care and where we believe that education is very much a matter of the individual.

Acorns Class (Years 1 and 2)

A Message from the Class Teachers, Mrs Wood and Mrs Douglass

Welcome to Term 3

Welcome to Acorns 2019!

We hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year - welcome back to school!

The Acorn Staff Team would like to thank everyone for their very thoughtful Christmas cards and gifts, we were all touched by your kindness and appreciation.

In fact our first newsletter of the year always prompts many “thanks”, how lucky we are to have so much to be grateful for:-

A huge thank you to everyone for providing costumes and for taking the time out to come and watch our “stars” perform in our Nativity Play.  We hope that everyone enjoyed the performance, the children certainly did!

Our Christmas Church Service was another enjoyable opportunity for us to all come together, thank you to everyone who came along.  We gave thanks for the true meaning of Christmas and everyone enjoyed singing and worshipping together.

Thank you to everyone who helped us have a wonderful day out in Canterbury when we visited the Marlowe Theatre to see Cinderella for our annual pantomime trip.  It was great fun and as always the ice creams went down a treat!

Now, turning to the new term ahead:-

In RE this term we will be exploring the leaning question of ‘What is the good news that Jesus brings?’. We will learn about Jesus’ teachings and the good news Christians believe Jesus brings.

Our topic this term will be ‘Nurses’. We will be learning about significant nurses such as: Florence Nightingale, Edith Cavell and Mary Seacole

Our Science topic this term is ‘Seasonal Changes’. We will be making comparisons between two seasons, as well as across all four seasons. We will also observe changes across the seasons by exploring the signs of spring and summer through nature and wildlife.

If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them on a Friday afternoon!

We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:

As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

The Home Learning menu for this term will be based upon our topics. The children’s showcasing of their previous home learning last term blew us away and we are very proud of the hard work the children have put into their learning at home. There were some very creative ways of displaying completed work and we particularly enjoyed seeing the places you visited and your fantastic experiments. Well done to everyone!

We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Monday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.

The Class Penguin, Rebecca, has had some fun weekend adventures already and can’t wait for more this term!

Travelling Bear has also started a new year of holiday adventures with Acorns.

Don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been!  Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!

Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class.  There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, marbles, Marvellous Me, wrist bands and raffle tickets.

For further information, please don’t forget to look at the school’s website, where you can find lots of useful information.  As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.

Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
