Acorns Class (Years 1 and 2)
A Message from the Class Teachers, Mrs Wood and Mrs Renton
Welcome to Term 4
Welcome back to school everyone, we hope you all had a lovely break. The days are staying light for longer and once again Spring is just around the corner!
There’s also a very warm Acorn welcome for Mrs Renton, who will be joining the Acorn family, teaching the class on Thursdays and Fridays. We hope she will be very happy here at Milstead.
Before looking at the Term ahead there are a couple of things to give special mention to from last term. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed Art Week and we’d all like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Foxon, who very kindly provided us with a wonderful printing Rangoli Workshop.
The Home Learning Showcase day was fantastic, well done everyone. We loved seeing the creative art work, tasting the bread and hearing all about what your families wanted to be when they grew up! We very much look forward to the next Showcase day.
Now to the Term ahead, our Topic Work will be The Great Fire of London.
We will be learning all about the events when fire swept through and gutted the central parts of the city from the 2nd of September to the 6th of September 1666.
Our forthcoming class trip to Kent Life will enable us to take part in a Great Fire of London workshop with enhanced learning opportunities finding out more about the events that took place, look out for more information soon.
In RE this term we will be exploring the leaning question of ‘Why does Easter matter to Christians?’. We will learn about Salvation and the stories of Holy Week.
Our Science topic this term is “Materials”. We will be learning about different materials, their properties and how they are used in every day life.
If you have any special ‘Show and Tell’ items linked with our topics this term we would love to see and hear about them on a Friday afternoon!
We hope that you will find the following information useful as a reminder of some very important information:
As last term PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon, however please make sure PE kits are in school all week for any additional physical activities that may take place. Every item of PE kit (as well as uniform) must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
The Home Learning menu for this term will be based upon our topics. We will continue to send home spellings and times tables each week on a Monday for your child to practise along with their daily reading.
The Class Penguin, Rebecca, has had some fun weekend adventures already and can’t wait for more this term!
Travelling Bear has also started a new year of holiday adventures with Acorns.
Don’t forget to check out his diary to see exactly where (and with whom) he has been! Travelling Bear just needs a letter from the child that would like to take him on holiday with them so that he can check his diary to make sure he isn’t already away!
Good behaviour and kindness are positively encouraged in Acorn class. There are opportunities to be rewarded for good conduct and effort with house points, marbles, Marvellous Me, wrist bands and raffle tickets.
As always if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Acorn staff team.
Thank you for helping us by supporting your child’s learning both at school and at home, which is invaluable to their continued progress.
The Acorn team consists of:
Mrs Wood (Mon – Wed) & Mrs Renton (Thu – Fri) – Class Teachers
Mrs Wrigglesworth & Mrs Archer – Teaching Assistants
Mrs Brown – Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA) (Monday and Thursday)

Acorn Class Trip to Whitstable
We all enjoyed our trip to Whitstable especially visiting the RNLI lifeboat station.
