Reading and writing week
We spent a week promoting a love of reading and writing. On World Book Day we all dressed as our favourite book characters in exchange for a book donation to contribute to our ever growing collections in classrooms and the new library. This year’s world book day theme was ‘share a story’ and we incorporated this into our learning throughout the week. We held a day where children were invited to wear their pyjamas and bring a pillow to snuggle down for a day of sharing stories. Cosy reading stations were set up in classrooms and parents were invited to enjoy some book time with children.
Throughout the week, children also learnt write in various styles linked to genres of stories. Every child created a story piece which is being made into a book for each class, for the library and for parents and carers to view in the reception area. We also had a variety of ‘mystery readers’ (parents!) in to read stories and ran a number of competitions including taking photos of themselves reading in unusual places.
Thank you to Mrs Foord and Mrs Wood for organising such a creative and fun week of learning.
