Our learning - Spring
An Antarctic Adventure! ❄️🌍
Hold onto your woolly hats, Antarctic explorers—this term we’re heading south for an adventure like no other! In Geography we’ll be braving the icy wilderness of Antarctica, while in English we’ll follow the incredible true story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expedition through Ice Trap (expect courage, teamwork and a lot of ice!). Science will get our pulses racing as we investigate the heart and circulatory system, perfectly timed with PE where football and fitness will have our own hearts pumping in real time. In DT we’re turning fashion designers and creating waistcoats—fabulous, darling! As Easter approaches, we’ll pause in RE to explore the powerful story of Jesus’ sacrifice and the hope behind why Christians call the day of his death Good Friday. Meanwhile, spring is in the air, so in French we’ll be chatting all about the weather, and in Computing we’ll tackle important topics like cyber-bullying while also coding with micro:bits. With courage, kindness and curiosity leading the way, we’re expecting plenty of “glimmers” of brilliance this term! ✨
Hold onto your togas – term 3 is a blockbuster!
We travelled back to Ancient Greece, diving into Corinthian Girl and unleashing our inner historians through diaries, newspaper reports, persuasive texts and more. Maths got serious (in a fun way!) as we tackled formal multiplication, division and fractions, while Science got gloriously gruesome as we explored the human digestion system – squeamish students beware! In RE we wrestled with the big question, “What would Jesus do?”, Computing had us directing our very own stop-motion animations (Hollywood, watch out!), and PE was a double act of gymnastics and dance. French was all about clothing, so we learned some très chic vocabulary, and Music went full blues – a moment Miss Wallis had been waiting for all year.
Our learning - Autumn
What a fantastic start to the year!
Term 1 launched us into a whirlwind of discovery and creativity across the curriculum. In History, we journeyed back in time to uncover the mysteries of the Maya civilisation, while Science challenged us to investigate mixtures and separation through hands-on exploration. Our artistic side shone in Art as we created stunning space-inspired imagery, and in RE we reflected deeply on what it means for God to be both loving and holy.
We strengthened our teamwork skills in PSHE, took on fast-paced challenges in tag rugby during PE, and developed our collaborative computing skills through exciting projects. In French, we grew in confidence by practising conversational language. Our love of reading flourished in English as we explored Middleworld alongside a range of powerful myths, while Maths kept our brains buzzing with work on shapes, coordinates, and Roman numerals.
Term 2 was just as action-packed!
In English, we were inspired by The Last Tree, prompting thoughtful discussions about the importance of protecting our planet. Geography took us on a thrilling adventure into the world of deserts, discovering what makes these extreme environments so unique. Science was a real highlight, with weekly experiments exploring different materials and their properties—our classroom felt like a laboratory!
In RE, we learned about the Holy Trinity and its significance to Christians around the world. Our PE lessons saw us sharpening our hockey skills—and wow, the progress has been amazing! Creativity continued to flourish as we learned the Samba in Music, created our own rhythms using Scratch in Computing, and explored a French family tree in French.
